PareiDoliA sind Marta Zapparoli und Liz Allbee. Der Name des Duos ist angelehnt an die Pareidolie, das Phänomen, in Dingen und Mustern vermeintliche Gesichter und vertraute Wesen zu erkennen – also etwa in Wolkenbildern oder den „Mann im Mond“ in der Mondoberfläche.
Marta Zapparoli arbeitet mit selbstgebauten Antennen, Funkempfängern, -Scannern und -Detektoren und „fischt“ damit Töne aus der Luft. Liz Allbee arbeitet mit einer selbstentwickelten quadraphonen Trompete, Stimme und Elektronik.
Während Marta Zapparoli ihre Klänge im Äußeren, in der Luft, aufspürt, ist für Liz Allbee das Musikmachen ein innerer Vorgang. Als PareiDoliA wollen sie dieses Innen und Außen zu einer neuen Musik im Raum verschmelzen. Sie erforschen die radikalen Extreme von Anwesenheit und Abwesenheit, vertonen Phänome, die normalerweise jenseits der Schwelle der menschlichen Wahrnehmung liegen, rekonfigurierieren die Verkörperung von Instrumenten und Interpretinnen.
Imagine that Light is a Fish, eine Melange musikalisch für sich selbst sprechender Informationen, ist eine Radiocollage über Zeitreisen, schwarze Löcher, Vibration, Stimmen und den großen kosmischen Schlund, unter Verwendung der im Strom der Zeit sich zersetzenden Archive magnetischer Materie.

RR Reihe Radiostücke – Drei live Uraufführungen und eine Deutschlandpremiere im Stadthaus Ulm sowie im Das Gold, Neu-Ulm, bei gleichzeitiger Liveübertragung im Rahmen der Sendung entartet bei Radio free FM.
In den vier Kompositionen der vier aus unterschiedlichen experimentellen Zusammenhängen stammenden Formationen kommen Sprache oder Stimme, der Tradition des Mediums Radio folgend, in fokussierter Form zum Tragen. Die vier Gruppen vertreten unterschiedliche Spielarten zeitgenössischen Musizierens, zwischen Improvisation und auskomponiertem Musiktheater, Auseinandersetzung mit dem Songformat und Noise.

Liz Allbee is a composer/performer residing in Berlin, Germany. She performs most often on trumpet, self-designed quadraphonic trumpet, electronics, and voice. Her work encompasses improvisation, electro-acoustic and text-based composition as well as instrument creation, often focusing on issues of embodiment and extension.
She has appeared at such festivals and venues as Maerzmusik, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Darmstadt (Germany), San Francisco Electronic Music Festival (US), Huddersfield (UK), Wien Modern, (Austria) among others. She is the recipient of funding and grants from Initative Neue Musik, Berlin Senat, the European Network for Contemporary Audiovisual Creation, and Berlin Arbeitsstipendium and has been Artist-in-Residence at Kunstmeile Krems, Austria, Avatar-Quebec, Q-02 in Brussels, and STEIM in Amsterdam, among others.

Exploring, discovering and listening below the surface of the audible to other possibilities of what can exist in a space. Focusing on the inaudible spectral site of the location where we are now - not to dream or be elsewhere, but to understand that here and now happens as a sonic reality, which is constantly mutable. Catching these frequencies using tools and devices such as detectors, antennas, sensors and more, and developing these signals into a vortex of information in real time, with the use of reel-to-reel tape machines. Stimulating our senses from other sonic realities, which constantly cross our bodies, interrupting our balance. Developing and recognizing different ways of perceiving and listening beneath the audible.
Marta Zapparoli is an Italian experimental sound artist, improviser, performer, and self-taught researcher active in sound art since 2003. In her work there is a deep relationship between energies, electromagnetic & magnetic signals, radio waves, acoustic sound and sensorial matter. She employs a wide range of experimental techniques and equipment, often using scientific and technological tools (including antennas - many of them self-built - as well as detectors, radio receivers, and sdr). In recent years her practice has been focused on self-made recordings of the electromagnetic spectrum coming from the atmosphere and from outer space, as primary materials for her artistic investigation. These environments are an endless source of information and they stimulate her imagination, creativity, and awareness, allowing her to enter into boundless territories. She brings the invisible sonic web into a distinct aurality, transforming reality into new visions through compositions, live performances, and site-specific sound interventions.
Besides her solo project, she has extensive duos and larger group collaborations including PareiDoliA with (Liz Allbee), The Elks (Fagaschinski, Roisz, Allbee), the Circuit Training V Ensemble, Vertigo Transport (with Burkhard Beins), a duo with Billy Roisz, a duo with Greta Christensen, a trio with Martin Lorenz & Sebastian Hofmann. She is a member of Berlin’s 24-piece Splitter Orchester since 2009.
She has played with many regarded musicians and bands and has performed worldwide in festivals such as: Maerzmusik, Atonal, A’LARME, Fusion, Darmstadt, Sincussion, Heroines of Sound, Eavesdrop (Germany), Huddersfield, Sonorities, Colour Out Of Space (UK), Borealis (Norway), Sonic Circuit, High Zero (US), Geiger (Sweden), Konfrontationen, ArtActs (Austria), Zwei Tage Strom, Earweare (Switzerland), Crack, Meteo Mulhouse Music Fest (France), Alternativa (CZ) among others.
She has released solos on the record labels Idiosyncratic, Zeromoon, Glistening Examples, and on TMRW tapes. Collaborative releases on: Mikroton, NebulaRosa, Spina, Gagarin, Urban Art, and Nohmand records.

Liz Allbee & Marta Zapparoli have been part of the experimental music community of Berlin for well over a decade, and have performed solo or in various configurations at such festivals as CTM, A L’arme, NEXT, Wien Modern, Darmstadt, Maerzmusik, Donaueschingen, LEM, Meteo, Berlin JazzFest, Borealis and at places such as Akademie der Künste, DAAD Gallery and Berghain, among many others.
In addition to their solo practices and numerous collaborations, the two joined together in 2017 to form PareiDoliA. In the spirit of inquiry, and through the combination of their very different materials and methodologies, they sought to open a space of experimentalism which focused on dichotomies of scale.
Their latest work Enantiodromia, premiered A L'arme Festival, Silent Green, Berlin 11 Dec. 2020, finds the two immersed in the inversion of dichotomies, bouncing signals off of the moon, relating text to the electromagnetic body, and as always, holding space for the revelations of uncertainty.
