AAS Nr. 410, The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card

The Alan Parsons Project war ein britisches Musikprojekt, das von 1975 bis 1987 Bestand hatte und den Genres Progressive Rock und Artrock zugeordnet wird. Die Band wurde gegründet von Alan Parsons (geb. 20.12.1948 in London) und Eric Woolfson (geb. 18.03.1945 in Glasgow und gest. 02.12.2009 in London). Alan Parsons war Tontechniker und arbeitete u.a. mit den Beatles, den Wings, Pink Floyd, Cockney Rebel und Al Stewart. 
Eric Woolfson war Songschreiber und Manager tätig. Beide trafen sich 1974 und beschlossen, gemeinsam Musik zu produzieren, wobei beide stets weitere Studio-/ bzw. Gastmusiker mit in die Produktionen einbezogen - wie z.B. den Sänger John Miles. Somit ist die Liste der Mitwirkenden relativ lang. Die Musik der Band ist geprägt von rockigen Klänge in Verbindung mit sinfonischen Arrangements aber auch dem Einsatz von Synthesizern. Die Alben waren Konzeptalben, immer zu einem bestimmten Thema. In AAS spielen wir heute das Album "The Turn of a Friendly Card" aus dem Jahr 1980. Es ist das 5. Studioalbum des Projekts von Alan Parsons und Eric Woolfson und gilt als eines der wichtigsten Werke der Progressive- und Art-Rock-Szene der 1980er Jahre. Das Album ist ein Konzeptalbum über Glücksspiel, Risiko, Sucht, Hoffnung und menschliche Illusionen. Inspiriert wurde es von Casinos in Monte Carlo und Las Vegas. Eric Woolfson lebte damals zeitweise in Monaco und beobachtete dort die Atmosphäre der Spielbanken. Das Album erzählt die Geschichte eines Mannes, der seinem Alltag entflieht, ins Casino geht und am Ende alles verliert. Wir spielen das Album in der erweiterten 2025er CD-Version.
