Indiegap #077: UK STÄDTETOUR

 

 

In der heutigen Sendung wurde musikalisch durch England getourt. Dahin, wo Indie quasi zum Kulturgut gehört: auf die Insel. Von der Südküste bis hoch nach Newcastle. Und jede Stadt bringt uns ihre eigenen Bands mit.

STOP 1 – BRIGHTON
Wir starten in Brighton – quasi das „London am Meer“. Kreativ, alternativ, viele Studierende – perfekte Bedingungen für Indie-Bands.

STOP 2 – LONDON
Jetzt rein in die Hauptstadt – London. Eine der wichtigsten Musikstädte der Welt. Camden, Shoreditch – hier ist Indie zu Hause. Mit dabei:

  • Bloc Party.  Traps
  • Blur - Park Life
  • The Vaccines - I cant quit

 

STOP 3 – WELWYN GARDEN CITY
Nächster Halt: Welwyn Garden City. Klingt erstmal unspektakulär – ist eine geplante Vorstadt nördlich von London. Aber genau das macht’s spannend: Indie kommt eben nicht nur aus den großen Metropolen.

STOP 4 – OXFORD
Weiter nach Oxford – Studentenstadt, viele Bands entstehen hier an der Uni. Zwei sehr unterschiedliche, aber extrem prägende Acts:

  • Radiohead (Oxford/Abingdon) - Creep
  • Foals  - My Number

 

STOP 5 – BIRMINGHAM
Nächster Halt: Birmingham. Industriestadt, oft unterschätzt – aber mit eigener, starker Szene

  • Editors (Birmingham) - Munich

 

STOP 6 – SHEFFIELD
Weiter nach Sheffield – Arbeiterstadt, viel DIY, viel Ehrlichkeit. H

  • Arctic Monkeys (Sheffield) - Teddy Picker

 

STOP 7 – LIVERPOOL
Liverpool – musikalisch sowieso legendär. Heute wieder stark im Indie:

  • The Wombats - Lemon to a knife fight
  • Circa Waves  - T-Shirt Wheater

 

STOP 8 – MANCHESTER
Manchester – absolute Legendenstadt. Hier wurde Musikgeschichte geschrieben:

  • The Smiths - This Charming Man
  • Oasis - Live forever 

 

STOP 9 – LEEDS
Jetzt wird’s energiegeladener: Leeds. Studentenstadt, viele kleine Clubs, viel DIY-Spirit.

STOP 10 – NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
Letzter Halt: Newcastle upon Tyne. Die Stadt ist bekannt für ihre extrem lebendige Partyszene – und genau das hört man auch bei:

  • Maxïmo Park - Apply some pressure
